What is Slow Food?
Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. To do that, Slow Food brings together pleasure and responsibility, and makes them inseparable. Today, we have over 100,000 members in 132 countries.
What is Slow Food Harrisburg?
Slow Food Harrisburg is dedicated to:
• Showcasing local natural and organic Central PA producers

• Inviting epicures/food policy authors to make informative presentations
Our main event is a series of Meet the Producer Slow Suppers in collaboration with producer/growers and the Harrisburg Area Community College Benjamin Olewine III School of Culinary Arts who prepare the meal. Our fall 2009 featured Pennsylvania raised game birds, exotic mushrooms and huckleberries.
